How did Ludlow help out during World War II?
What kinds of products were made at the mills?
Why were the mill workers called Soldiers of Production?

We observed photographs showing different kinds of products that were being produced to support the troops that were fighting overseas in World War II. They show us that the Ludlow Manufacturing Associates wanted the world to know that they contributed to the war.

In this photograph it shows the mill workers leaving work. There seems to be more women who worked at the mills than men. This picture also shows us a sign that says, “THRU THESE GATES PASS SOLDIERS OF PRODUCTION.” They probably had this sign there to make the mill workers feel important in the war and make them think that they were a big help even though they weren’t fighting overseas.

In this photograph it shows us a man driving a truck with supplies. There is a sign that says, “LUDLOW JUTE ROPE on its way to the FIGHTING FRONT,” and then it also says “Made by Ludlow’s SOLDIERS OF PRODUCTION.” These supplies were probably ready to be exported to the war.

This photograph shows some of the products that were made in the mills. Some of the products that they made were shock yarn, sand bag twine, jute, electric rope, marline, and much more. The picture was probably taken by one of the mill workers or mill owners to show everyone the things that they were making for the troops in the war.

Window display of Ludlow Post Office

This is a picture of the Ludlow Post Office in 1941. It shows us several documents about the war. There are two sayings located on the top of the window: “Our motto 100 per cent Americanism” and also “Our aim America for Americans.” This display was probably in the office to show the people that lived in Ludlow the things that were going on in the war and also to influence people to join the army and defend their country.

All of these photos show the different products that Ludlow contributed to the war and also made the workers feel important and patriotic, by helping make the important products for the war. It looks like the Ludlow Manufacturing Associates were very proud of their products and their hard work. Even though the mill workers weren’t fighting in the war, Ludlow was very important in WWII.
