Ludlow is rich with the best legends! In our group we read about the legend of Indian Leap and the death of Chief Roaring Thunder and his men in King Philips War. There is a section in Indian Orchard today known as Indian Leap. In the legend, the Indians were attacked by whites and the only way out was jumping on the rocks over the roaring Chicopee River (leaping to death). One Indian jumped with his baby into the roaring waters. Only one Indian was seen climbing out of the water. There are many versions of this legend and nobody really knows if it is true, but the story has been around for a long time. Indian Leap is a fascinating legend to learn about!
