Who could vote in 1793?
What is separation of church and state?
Why did the Meetinghouse stop holding church meetings?

The History of Ludlow, 1912

In our group we examined voting requirements as well as the separation of church and state. Our town’s voting requirements were set on May 6, 1793 at the town meeting. In order to vote you had to be 21 years of age, be a man, and have an income of 3 pounds (about 10 dollars).

In the 1700’s, the Meetinghouse was used for both church services and town meetings.Things changed in 1835 because our country decided to separate the church from everything else.  So in 1841, the people of Ludlow built a church across from the Meetinghouse. It is Ludlow’s First Church.
